Title: Lucky (1-year)

Who Reads Lucky?
Lucky magazine is the only magazine devoted exclusively to shopping and style. A pioneer in the fashion magazine field, it provides women who are passionate about shopping with a broad range of the best styles and products out there--but a tight edit of the pieces that are worth a second look. As the voice of a friend in the know, Lucky makes fashion and beauty fun and accessible for everyone, showcasing what to wear and how to wear it.

The magazine features gorgeous photography and an endless array of product shots--and every item comes with how-to-get it-right-now information next to its photo (pricing, website, phone number, store location). Readers don’t have to flip to the back of the book to read the fine print on how much something costs--and they can buy it right then and there. It’s all about instant gratification. Lucky also shows readers a variety of price points—you’ll see a pair of $300 shoes next to a $30 pair.

Lucky’s editors offer real-life women advice on how to wear the latest trends in a way that’s flattering and right for their shape and size: they don’t assume one size or trend fits all. It’s all about accessibility, and remembering that fashion is supposed to be fun, not stressful. There’s also advice on how to "shop your own closet": you don’t need to go out and buy a whole new wardrobe each season—just a few key pieces and styling tricks can turn a summer piece into a fall one.

Since Lucky’s launch in December 2000, circulation has rocketed from 500,000 to over 1.1 million, proving to be one of the most successful launches in Conde Nast history.

Magazine Layout:
Every page of Lucky is packed full of gorgeous fashion, beauty and home finds, all shown in an appealing way and with explanations and descriptions of why our editors are loving them. It’s very easy to navigate and friendly, clean design, and not at all off-putting or intimidating. The models look like real people--not scary-thin or scowly. Plus, many of Lucky’s editors are photographed for the magazine every month--to show how the items look like on real people, and to help the readers feel a connection with the staff of Lucky.

Summary: 4 star magazine, 2 star subscription

Condé Nast deserves zero stars for beginning my subscription to two of their magazines with outdated material.

I ordered on Aug. 4 with the understanding the first issues, September's fall fashion issues, would take "4 to 6 weeks" for delivery-- that would place it sometime between Sep 1 and Sep 15. Sep 2, I received Oct Lucky (and Aug & Sep of another CN mag.) I was disappointed they did not send me the fall fashion Lucky, and for receiving expired material pre-dating my subscription period, shorting me one issue at the end of my subscription. Not sure if palming off expired issues is an intended cost cutting strategy or just an oversight, but I loath when companies' default position is to screw over the customer, placing the onus upon customers to notice the error and decide whether it is worth rectifying, and waste their time fixing it.

But, when I called CN's toll free CS number the agent quickly and courteously amended my account for Vogue and set the other mag to ship the Sep issue. YAY! 5 stars for excellent customer service!

As far as the magazine itself, I enjoy sailing through the pages to see Lucky's recommendations on how to mix up high, medium and affordable fashions to create a unique personal style. Some of my favorite features are; when they show a one-week capsule wardrobe, another longer capsule wardrobe where they show about 20 items worn in a ton of different ways, and when they have a grid containing the season's trendy items and the $$$, $$ and $ versions of them. My one criticism of the magazine is it seems to be getting slimmer and weaker. I hope they are able to bounce back to their former glory circa late 90s/early 00s, because the magazine offers a unique niche-- showing readers how to coordinate, manage and maximize their wardrobes.

Summary: Always looking to buy more? Get this magazine.

Lucky is not exactly a fashion magazine, it is discribed as a shopping guide type of magazine by the publishing company. If you are like me, always hunting for new places to shop around, don't really do much budget control(even I do want to), make couple of impulse buy per month, or just like to know what's hanging on the shelves this season, Lucky is for you. Some reviewer mentioned that this is practically a catalog or nothing but ads, well as a shopping guide it does serve the purpose right. Don't subscribe if you are expecting some deep and insightful fashion articles or makeover tutorials!

Summary: Happy with Lucky

Lucky magazine is a good resource for keeping up with fashion trends. I've enjoyed it for several years. Also, it's much less expensive than the trade WWD and you get basically the same information.

Summary: The magazine won't go away!

I've canceled my subscription upon the notice of automatic renewal. It's been a few months and I'm still receiving this stupid magazine. I haven't been refunded. And I doubt that they will ever stop sending it. I'm going to have to change my credit card number so that they can't keep billing me. Annoying and unresponsive to customers wishes!

Summary: Great magazine, strange start to subscription

I received three issues last week of this magazine...March, April and May. I subscribed in February. I'm guessing that all three counts toward my year subscription? Other than that, the magazine is great! Glad I subscribed. It's got shopping ideas for women of all ages and budgets.
